Picture a cream tea at Sally Lunn’s in Bath, the Settle to Carlisle line rattling across the Pennines, or a packed lunch on a ridge above Brecon with a dozen new walking friends. None of it needs a passport, a long-haul flight or anyone else’s diary.
Singles holidays UK companies run at home are some of the easiest trips you’ll ever book on your own. You can get there by train or coach, they last from two nights to a week, and the best give you your own room, a host to break the ice and dinner with like-minded people who’ve also come alone. Here’s who’s selling solo trips around Britain for 2026 and 2027, what’s included and when to go.
Why holiday at home on your own?
It’s the gentlest way to try solo travel.
There’s no airport, no currency and no language to wrestle with, and if you don’t enjoy it you’re a train ride from your own sofa. A short break is long enough to make friends but short enough that a first-timer won’t feel stranded, and the good hosted trips build in a social programme of welcome drinks, shared meals and guided days out, so you’ll know everyone by the second evening. For lots of people it’s the first time they’ve travelled alone, and it gives them the confidence to book something further afield. Prices tend to be lower too, because there’s no flight in the bill.
What kinds of singles holidays UK companies run
Most trips fall into one of five types:
- Hosted hotel breaks. Two or three nights in a good hotel with a tour leader, guided visits and dinner together. Solos and GoSingles do these.
- Escorted coach tours. Four or five days with a tour manager and pick-ups from joining points near home. Grand UK Holidays and Shearings run solo tours.
- Guided walking holidays. A week in a country house with a choice of graded walks each day. HF Holidays is the big name.
- Activity and hobby breaks. Art, dancing or walking weekends, such as Friendship Travel’s art holiday in Northern Ireland.
- Festive house parties. Christmas and New Year with company, covered in our guide to singles holidays at Christmas.
Where to go on a solo break in Britain
Each region suits a different kind of trip, and these are the places the solo specialists keep coming back to.
The coast: Dorset, Devon and Sussex
Seaside hotels make an easy first solo holiday, with promenade walks before dinner and day trips laid on. Solos stays at the Marsham Court Hotel above Bournemouth’s East Cliff, while Grand UK’s coach tours head for Torquay and the English Riviera, and Eastbourne for the South Downs and Rye.
City breaks: Bath, Bristol and York
A city break works brilliantly alone because everything’s walkable. You set the pace, and there’s always a café when your feet need a rest. Solos pairs Bristol and Bath with guided tours of both, and Shearings runs York and West Yorkshire Highlights.
Hills and walking country: Wales, the Peaks and the Lakes
Walking holidays draw more solo travellers than almost any other kind of trip. HF Holidays runs solos weeks in the Brecon Beacons and the Peak District, and Shearings tours the Lake District.
Scotland and Northern Ireland
Further north, a coach tour does the driving for you. Shearings runs Loch Lomond and the West Highland Line, and Friendship Travel’s art holiday is based on the Causeway Coast at Ballycastle.

The companies running solo trips around Britain
Everything below comes from each company’s own pages, checked in October 2026, and prices are per person and “from”, so expect them to move as trips fill.
Solos
Solos guarantees a room to yourself with no single supplements, and every one of its short breaks comes with a Solos tour leader.
The Bournemouth and Beaulieu weekend runs from £499 on 23 April 2027 or £539 on 18 June, with entry to Beaulieu and a guided tour of Palace House and the Abbey. Prefer cities? Bristol and Bath is three nights at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bristol City Centre on 9 April or 10 September 2027, from £735. You make your own way to the hotel on both, and our Solos review covers the company in more depth.
What the Bristol and Bath price includes
- A double room for sole use
- Breakfast and a three-course buffet dinner each day
- Guided tours of Bristol and Bath
- A cream tea at Sally Lunn’s
- A welcome drink and your Solos tour leader
HF Holidays
HF Holidays has welcomed solo guests since 1913, and on most of its holidays over 40% of guests are travelling alone. Its 16 country houses run on full board with a choice of guided walks each day, and in the 2025 British Travel Awards it won Best Medium Company for UK Short Breaks.
Here’s the bit worth knowing. Members pay no single supplement on Classic single rooms at the country houses. Non-members pay £10 a night, as its solo travellers page explains.
A week where everyone’s on their own
The Brecon Beacons Walking with Sightseeing for Solos holiday at Nythfa House runs from 30 April 2027, from £1,289 (£1,259 for members), with a second date on 24 September. A dedicated Solos host, packed lunches, transport to walks and entrance fees are all included.
Grand UK Holidays Good Companions
Fancy a coach tour where everyone else is a solo traveller too? Good Companions tours are escorted by a tour manager, with free local joining points and no single room supplement on mainland Britain holidays, subject to availability.
The 2027 programme is out. The Kingdom of Northumbria tour runs on 24 May, 14 June, 19 July and 13 September, half board, with Alnwick, Holy Island, Bamburgh and Durham on the itinerary. Other five-day trips include Best of Yorkshire and the Dales and Blackpool and the English Lakes, and deposits start from £65.

Shearings
Shearings lists 24 solo holidays from £539pp, each with sole use of a room and no single supplement. Highlights of the Lake District is from £789, and Loch Lomond and the West Highland Line is from £639, with its first departure on 8 March 2027. Most tours have local or regional joining points.
Friendship Travel
Friendship Travel runs a handful of small group trips at home for adults travelling alone. The standout for 2027 is the Northern Ireland Art Holiday at the four-star Marine Hotel in Ballycastle from 27 September, with three days of sketching tuition from Graham Thew, a trip to the Giant’s Causeway and dinner with wine each night. You can drive or book it with flights to Belfast. See our Friendship Travel review for more.
GoSingles
GoSingles says its guests are typically in their 30s to 70s, and it guarantees a room to yourself on its breaks for like-minded singles. Its singles breaks are social two and three-night hotel stays with a host, packed with activities. A Valentine and Wellness weekend at the Derby Mickleover Hotel on 12 to 14 February 2027 costs £299 with dinner, a comedy night and a disco, and an Easter break at Kettering Park Hotel and Spa from 26 March costs £479.
Just You
The British tours on Just You’s site right now are all festive, with Christmas breaks in Bath, Chester, Harrogate and Oxford, plus New Year in York. Browse the Just You singles holidays at home, and read our Just You review for how its group holiday format works.

Shearings prices its solo coach tours per tour rather than per date, and Grand UK doesn’t show Good Companions prices on its singles page, so ring for a quote.
When’s the best time for a solo break at home?
Late spring and early autumn. Most 2027 solo trips cluster in April, May and September, when days are long enough for sightseeing and you miss the summer school holidays. Winter has its own appeal, with Valentine’s and festive breaks.
How to avoid the single supplement
Pick a company that builds the single traveller into its prices. Solos, GoSingles and Shearings’ solo collection all give you your own room at no extra cost, and Grand UK doesn’t charge single room supplements on its mainland Good Companions tours.
Elsewhere, join the club. HF Holidays waives its supplement on Classic rooms for members, so price membership against a week’s supplement. Watch for last-minute deals in the companies’ newsletters, but book early if you want a particular date, because single rooms are always the first to go.

How to book your first solo holiday at home
- Choose the kind of trip first: a coast hotel, a city, a walking week or a coach tour.
- Shortlist two or three companies that offer sole use of a room with no supplement.
- Compare what’s included, especially travel, drinks with dinner and entrance fees.
- Ring them and ask about the group size and the typical age of guests.
- Book early for single rooms, then add travel insurance with cancellation cover.

Before you book: your checklist
Tick these off for any trip, and your list saves on this device.
- Is a room to yourself guaranteed, or is it a twin share?
- Is there a single supplement, or none at all?
- Is travel to the hotel included?
- Where’s your nearest coach joining point?
- Which dinners include wine or drinks?
- Are entrance fees and excursions in the price?
- Is there a tour leader, host or tour manager?
- What time do you need to arrive on day one?
- Would a membership discount bring the price down?
- Is your money protected?
- Have you got travel insurance with cancellation cover?
- Have you checked walking grades or fitness levels?
Singles holiday questions answered
Are these holidays for dating?
No. They’re for single people and solo travellers who’d like company. Most guests just want good conversation over dinner and someone to explore with.
What age are the other guests?
It varies. GoSingles says its guests are typically in their 30s to 70s, and its Twixmas weekend is for over-50s. Most other companies don’t publish an age range, so ask. For older travellers, see our guide to the best solo holidays for over 60s.
Do I have to share a room?
Not with these companies. Solos, GoSingles and Shearings’ solo tours give you sole use of a room, and HF Holidays has single rooms at its country houses.
How do I get there?
Coach tours collect you from joining points near home. Hotel breaks like Solos and GoSingles usually expect you to make your own way, and Friendship Travel’s Northern Ireland trip can include flights.
Is a coach tour good for a first solo holiday?
Yes. A tour manager handles everything, you travel with the same group all week and you’ll never need to drive.
When should I book?
As early as you can for single rooms. Grand UK’s 2027 Good Companions dates and Shearings’ 2027 solo tours are already on sale.
Ready to plan your trip?
Start with what you love doing, whether that’s walking, coach touring or a long dinner in a seaside hotel, then pick the company that fits. Spring 2027 trips are filling now, and the solo rooms always go first! For holidays further afield, there’s plenty more to plan on Holiday Alone.
