Being single is no reason to wait for someone to go on holiday with. Some of the best trips you’ll ever take are the ones you book for yourself: a Greek hotel full of people who’ve come on their own too, a winter tour through the Canadian Rockies, a walking week in the mountains of North Cyprus. The trick is picking the right kind of trip and destination, because holidays for single people come in very different shapes.
Some are lively and social from the first night. Others give you company at dinner and the rest of the day to explore by yourself.
Both are a brilliant experience, and you’ll find good food and local life either way.
Below are six types of singles holidays, with real trips on sale now and the companies that run them. There’s a quick guide to which one suits you, and a few destinations that are easy to explore solo. Prices were checked on the companies’ own websites in October 2026, so treat them as a guide and check before you book.
Which kind of singles holiday suits you?
Start with how you like to spend a day. Ask yourself:
- Do you want a crowd or a few faces? A sociable beach hotel can have dozens of guests, while a hiking group might be a dozen.
- Do you want to move or stay put? Touring trips change hotel every couple of nights. A single resort means you unpack once.
- How active do you feel? Some tours are rated for a good level of fitness, others are gentle.
- Do you need a room to yourself? The solo specialists include one, while many adventure companies pair you with another traveller.
- How much time have you got? A one night party weekend in the UK and a fortnight’s tour are both holidays.
Then pick from the six below.
Six of the best holidays for single people
1. A Greek island hotel just for solo travellers
Imagine a sunny terrace in Corfu where everyone at the bar is on their own too, and the evening meal is a long table of like-minded new friends swapping stories from the day. That’s the idea behind Solos Exclusives, where the hotel is reserved for Solos guests. Its first-timer holidays include Corfu, Halkidiki and Santorini, and every guest gets a private room with no single supplement and a tour leader on hand. Solos says its average group is 15 people.
Friendship Travel runs similar sunny stays for singles. When we checked, it listed seven nights half board at the Aquamare Hotel in Paphos, Cyprus, from £1,095 for a November 2026 departure. Going further, it also sells all inclusive stays at BodyHoliday in St Lucia in the Caribbean, from £3,995.
Best for: first-timers and anyone who wants sun, sea, the beach and easy company. The same company also sells all inclusive beach stays in places like Tenerife if you’d rather not think about meals at all.
2. An escorted tour in the Canadian Rockies
Snow on the peaks, a horse-drawn sleigh through Banff and a night at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, looking out over the frozen lake. Just You’s eight day Canadian Rockies Winter Adventure includes the Banff Gondola, time in the Banff hot springs and Johnston Canyon, weather permitting. It’s priced from £3,549 including flights from Heathrow, with departures in January and February 2028. Just You rates it Active, so you’ll need a good level of fitness.
Every Just You tour is for solo travellers only, and accommodation is a room of your own. A Holiday Director travels with the group and sorts the details, which is a real comfort on a long-haul trip and gives you confidence from day one. Read our Just You review for more. Its sister company Travelsphere also tours Canada, including a Grand Tour of Canada with the Rocky Mountaineer, for mixed groups with a single supplement. Our guide to escorted holidays for solo travellers compares 13 tour operators, Just You and Travelsphere included.
Best for: big bucket list trips you’d rather not plan alone.

3. A walking holiday in North Cyprus
The Kyrenia Mountains rise straight up behind the coast, and hiking them gets you castles, abbeys and big views down to the sea. Exodus’s eight day Walking in North Cyprus trip is based at the four-star Hotel Pia Bella near Kyrenia harbour, and the itinerary takes in Bellapais Abbey, Kyrenia Castle and the Five Finger Mountains. It’s rated Activity Level 3 (moderate) and costs from £1,195 without flights. A room of your own is a supplement of about £305 to £335.
Prefer something closer to home? Friendship Travel’s two night New Forest break on foot was listed from £430 half board, and its Casa Rosa week in Olhao, Portugal, from £1,275.
Best for: anyone who likes a goal for the day and good conversation on the trail.
Guided walking for solo travellers
Just You runs walking tours in Europe, including the Camino de Santiago and Crete. Every trip comes with a room of your own.

4. An active adventure with a small group
Fancy climbing a mountain, kayaking a fjord or trekking across a glacier? Small group adventure companies are full of people who’ve booked alone, with local guides and a set itinerary, and several say over half their travellers are solo. Most will pair you with someone of the same gender at no extra cost. We’ve picked the best in our guide to solo adventure holidays, from a Toubkal weekend in Morocco to the Inca Trail in Peru.
Best for: fit, curious travellers who’d rather be doing than lounging.
5. A short break or party weekend
Not sure you’ll enjoy a whole week? Start with a night or two. Friendship Travel’s November ball in the Cotswolds near Cheltenham was listed from £245 for one night half board, and Solos runs UK party nights and city breaks, including an autumn party night in Leeds and a winter trip to Krakow and Zakopane in Poland. It’s a low-risk way to find out whether solo travel is for you, and to get a taste of the experience before a longer trip.
Best for: nervous first-timers and anyone short of annual leave.
6. Going it alone, your own way
Plenty of singles skip the tour altogether and travel independently. It’s often more affordable, you choose every step, and it’s easier than you’d think in places with good public transport and a big backpacking scene. Thailand, Vietnam, Albania and southern Spain (think Granada and Seville rather than Barcelona) come up again and again as places where it’s easy to meet people in hostels and on day trips.
Or walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain. The Pilgrim’s Office issued over 530,000 Compostela certificates in 2025, a record, and the Camino Frances was walked by about 46% of them, so you’ll never be short of company on the path.
Best for: confident travellers on a budget who like freedom.

Where’s easy to travel as a single person?
If you’re planning your own trip, some places make solo travel far easier than others. These come up again and again with people who’ve done it:
- Thailand. Great value, well-worn routes and so many solo travellers in Bangkok and the islands that you’ll meet people without trying.
- Vietnam. One of the best value destinations in Asia, with an easy north to south itinerary by bus or train and fantastic local food.
- Southern Spain. Tapas bars where it’s normal to eat at the counter, plus Granada and Seville for history and late nights.
- Albania. Cheap compared with the rest of Europe, with beaches in the south and hiking in the Albanian Alps.
- Italy. G Adventures’ Solo-ish Sicily trip runs eight days from Catania to Palermo with a hands-on cooking class and a walk on Mount Etna, from £1,646 on selected 2027 dates. For a room of your own and a solo-only group, try Just You’s Italy tours, which include Sicily.
- Costa Rica and Colombia. Popular with solo travellers for wildlife and beaches, and in Colombia for lively cities like Medellin and Cartagena.

What about the single supplement?
A single supplement is the extra charge for having a double room to yourself, and it’s the thing singles grumble about most. The good news is that the specialists have done away with it. Solos and Just You include a private room in the price, and Friendship Travel says it avoids supplements wherever it can and keeps them small when it can’t. Adventure companies like Exodus usually let you share with another solo traveller instead, or pay extra for privacy. Mainstream escorted tour firms such as Travelsphere charge a supplement on every tour, which our Travelsphere review explains.
No single supplement to pay
Every Just You tour includes a room of your own, and its offers page lists the current savings and last minute departures.
Tip: compare like with like. A tour that includes flights, transfers, most dinners and excursions can be better value than a cheaper one where you pay for everything on the day.
Tips for your first trip on your own
Feeling nervous about your first solo travel experience is completely normal. Solos says plenty of its guests are travelling alone for the very first time, and it suggests a few simple things: start with a short break, join the company’s Facebook group to meet others on your trip before you go, and have a few easy conversation starters ready for the first night.
And bring a book, because you don’t have to be sociable all the time!
- Pick the holiday type before the destination
- Check whether a single room is included
- Find out the group size and who usually books
- Check the activity level and how far you’ll go each day
- Make sure the holiday is ATOL protected if flights are included
- Buy travel insurance the day you book
- Join the company’s online group to meet people early
- Pack a book and something for quiet evenings
- Save the tour leader’s number in your phone
- Plan one thing just for you, like a solo museum morning

Holidays on your own: your questions answered
Are singles holidays just for dating?
No. Most people on these holidays simply want good company and someone to share a meal with. The solo specialists sell their trips on friendship and good company rather than romance.
Will I be the only one on my own?
Not on a solo specialist holiday, where every guest is travelling alone. On mixed adventure tours there are usually plenty of other solo travellers too.
What’s the best singles holiday for a first-timer?
A short break or a hotel reserved for singles, such as a Solos Exclusive in Greece. You unpack once and the group is easy to join.
Do I have to share a room?
Not with Solos or Just You, which give every guest a private room. Many adventure companies pair solo travellers of the same gender, with a supplement if you’d rather have your own space.
Is my money protected?
Holidays with flights should be ATOL protected. Friendship Travel, for example, lists CAA licence 6683. Check the number before you pay.
