Picture an early tee time on Pinhal, the umbrella pines throwing long shadows across the fairway and the January air already warm enough for short sleeves. Your playing partners met you at Faro airport yesterday. By the 18th green you’re arguing about who bought the last round, and tonight there’s dinner by the marina.
That’s the appeal of solo golf holidays in the Algarve. You get proper courses, guaranteed tee times and a ready-made four on every golf course, without needing to talk three friends into the same week off. This guide covers the escorted trips on sale for 2027, what they include, and how to plan an independent break if you’d rather go it alone.
Why the Algarve suits golfers travelling alone
Portugal’s southern coast has been a favourite with British golfers for decades, and it’s one of the best places in Europe for a golf vacation on your own. The flight to Faro is short, the winters are mild, and the region has more than 30 courses, many within half an hour of each other, from the Vilamoura cluster to the pine-lined layouts at Quinta do Lago and the quieter courses further east near the Spanish border.
The Old Course at Vilamoura has been open since 1969, and it was named Portugal’s Best Golf Course 2025 at the World Golf Awards.
For a single golfer, the bigger draw is how easy it all is. Every golf resort here is used to groups, and the clubhouses are social places where it’s easy to meet other players. Turn up as a single and you may well be paired with other players. From November to March the region is full of other golfers on a golf holiday of their own, so you’re never short of company at the bar.

Handicap check: the Solos golf trips below are for handicap players only, with a World Handicap System index of 38 or lower. You’ll need your index at the time of booking.
Which solo golf holidays in Portugal are on sale?
Solos runs escorted, hosted golf breaks built only for solo travellers, and it has three Algarve trips listed for 2027, each with a Solos tour leader as your host, flights from regional airports, transfers to the courses, five rounds with organised tee times and no single supplement.
Everyone in the group is a solo golfer, so nobody’s the odd one out.
Vilamoura Golf (31 January to 7 February 2027)
The most upmarket of the three, and a true luxury golf week. You’ll stay at the 5-star Domes Lake Algarve, a resort built round its own saltwater lake, with pools, a spa and a gym, about 40 minutes from Faro. The golf takes in four of the area’s best-known courses: two rounds on Pinhal and one each on Quinta do Lago South, Millennium and the Old Course.
- From: £2,999 for seven nights
- Meals: daily breakfast, a welcome drink, three dinners in local restaurants and four in the hotel, with drinks
- Extras: buggy hire £72 for the four courses if pre-booked, electric trolleys from £26 a round, a €25 group gratuity
Algarve Winter Golf in Alvor (28 February to 7 March 2027)
The best value, and it’s all inclusive. Base yourself at the Pestana Blue Alvor Beach on Três Irmãos beach in the western Algarve and play Silves (par 70) once, then Vale da Pinta (par 71) and Gramacho (par 72) twice each. Tee times start between 10.30 and 11.06, so there’s no dawn alarm.
- From: £2,598 for seven nights
- Meals: all inclusive, with drinks from the hotel list
- Room: twin or double for sole use, with a sea-view balcony upgrade for £404 a week

Robinson Quinta da Ria (9 to 16 May 2027)
Fancy five courses in five rounds? This spring trip is based at the all-inclusive Robinson Quinta da Ria in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, in the eastern Algarve, not far from the Spanish border. You’ll play Quinta da Ria, Castro Marim, Quinta do Vale, Quinta de Cima and Monte Rei, where a shared buggy is included. May brings longer days and warmer weather, which makes it a good pick if you’d like time on the beach after your round.
- From: £3,103 for seven nights
- Meals: all inclusive, with afternoon tea and cake
- Upgrade: a Golf View room for £84 a week, on request
Prices and dates were checked on the Solos site in October 2026. Each one is a luxury golf resort stay rather than a budget package, and the price reflects that. These trips sell out, so reserve early if one of the dates works for you, and read our review of Solos before you do.
The three trips side by side
| Trip | Hotel | Dates | Nights | Rounds | From (£) | All inclusive |

When’s the best time to play the Algarve?
Golfers come all year, but the sweet spot is the shoulder seasons. Think firm fairways, quick greens and a light jumper for the first few holes. Midsummer is hot for 18 holes and the courses are busier with holidaymakers, while the cooler months bring the escorted group trips and pleasant playing weather.
See more of Portugal on your own
Escorted Portugal tours and a Douro river cruise for solo travellers, each with a room of your own and a host.
Going independently: planning a golf break on your own
Would you rather pick your own dates? Plenty of single golfers fly to Faro, pick a golf resort or hotel near the courses and arrange tee times themselves, which is the cheapest kind of golf travel, though you’ll do the planning.
Vilamoura is the easiest base. Vilamoura Golf runs the Old Course, Pinhal, Laguna, Millennium and The Els Club, and tee times can be reserved online through its portal or by phone. That’s five courses on one doorstep, so a solo golfer can play a different one every day of the week. The clubhouse bars are social spots, too, and a good place to meet other players. For self catering, the Prado do Golf and Prado Villas resorts in Vilamoura are still taking bookings through the Prado Vilamoura website, with two-bedroom villas that work well if a couple of single friends want to share.
A package holiday company is the cheapest way to fly. It’s not a golf trip as such, but it works. Jet2holidays flies to the Algarve and gives solo travellers £30 off with the code SOLO30, so you could pick a beach hotel near Albufeira or Vilamoura and add your golf locally.
Going it alone does have one catch, as you may be paired with strangers on the first tee, which is half the fun for some golfers and the reason others prefer a group trip.

Solo holiday offers

Is a golf group trip right for you?
If you want guaranteed tee times, luxury hotels and company every evening, a solo golf group is hard to beat. You’ll play courses you might not get onto on your own, and the tour leader sorts the transfers so you never drive after a long lunch. Like-minded company is built in. That’s worth a lot when you’re travelling solo for the first time!
Not a golfer? Solos also runs tennis, walking and beach trips. For the rest of Portugal, Just You’s Picturesque Portugal tour takes in Porto, Lisbon and Sintra with a room of your own, and its Douro Valley river cruise sails the wine terraces. Keen walkers can browse Just You’s solo walking holidays, while our guide to singles holidays covers every style, and fitter travellers can try our pick of solo adventure holidays. If you don’t mind a single supplement, Travelsphere’s Lisbon Coast tour visits Sintra, Cascais and Óbidos.
Solo golf questions
Do I need a handicap to join a group golf trip?
For the Solos Algarve trips, yes. They’re for handicap players with a World Handicap System index of 38 or lower, and you’ll need to give it at the time of booking.
Will I pay a single supplement?
Not on the Solos golf trips. Each one includes a room for sole use with no single supplement.
Are flights included?
Yes. Return flights, airport transfers and transfers to the courses are included, and you can choose a regional airport online.
Can I hire clubs or a buggy?
Buggies and trolleys are usually extra and paid locally, apart from a shared buggy at Monte Rei on the Quinta da Ria trip. Pre-booking is a good idea, as they’re limited.
What’s the cheapest of the three trips?
Algarve Winter Golf in Alvor, from £2,598 all inclusive, when we checked in October 2026.
Where are the best courses near Vilamoura?
The Old Course, Pinhal, Laguna, Millennium and The Els Club are all in Vilamoura, and Quinta do Lago is a short drive east towards Faro.
