Solo Travel Companies: The UK Specialists Compared

Going on holiday alone is far easier with a company that’s done it a thousand times. A small band of UK firms build every trip around people travelling alone, and a growing list of big tour operators now run solo-only tours too. Some have been at it since the early 1980s.

This guide compares the solo travel companies UK holidaymakers can actually book in 2026: what each one charges for a room of your own, who tends to go, how big the groups get and how your money is protected. We checked every firm below was trading in October 2026.

Why book with a solo specialist?

Going alone with a group gives you company at dinner and someone else to worry about the transfers. If it’s your first time, that support makes a huge difference to your confidence. It’s a ready-made community for a week or two. Here’s what the best tour companies for singles do that a standard package doesn’t:

• Everyone’s in the same boat, so conversation starts on the first evening.
• A tour manager or host handles the itinerary, the tickets and any hiccups.
• Local guides show you the sights, then there’s free time to wander on your own.
• Meals are often shared, which is where the real connection happens.

The solo-only specialists

These five sell holidays to people travelling alone and nobody else. No couples, no families, and nobody looks twice when you ask for a table for one.

Just You

Picture a welcome drink on a Sicilian terrace with twenty-odd strangers who’ll be your dinner companions by the end of the week. Just You runs escorted tours across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, nearly always with return flights, hand-picked hotels, breakfasts and a Holiday Director. Its FAQs promise you’ll always have a twin or double room all to yourself.

Guests are typically in their 40s, 50s and 60s. The average group is 27, which feels closer to a coach tour than a small group trip, although Wild Borneo and a few others cap numbers at 20.

Flight holidays are run by G Touring Limited under ATOL 11266. In October 2026 Discover Sicily was listed from £2,219 for 8 days and Albania Uncovered from £1,699 for 8 days. Our Just You review has more.

Solos

Solos started in 1982 and calls itself the first specialist singles holiday company in the UK. Its 250-plus holidays take in sun, golf, tennis, ski, walking, UK balls and women-only tours, so it suits you if you’d rather pick a theme than a destination.

The line on its website is plain: “we don’t charge single supplements”.

Average group size is 15, small enough to learn everyone’s name by the second evening, and its FAQs say groups are typically aged 40 and over. There’s a separate over-60s range too (see our pick of the best solo holidays for over 60s). Read our Solos review or browse the Solos website.

Friendship Travel

Colum McLornan set the company up in 1999 with a season of house-party style holidays in Turkey, and it’s still run from Antrim today. The feel is relaxed rather than regimented: a host or two on hand, a hotel by the sea, and the freedom to join in or wander off. Rooms without a supplement come on selected holidays and dates, and the company says any charge is always shown clearly.

Many trips fly direct from Belfast and Dublin. In October 2026 its website had a week in Paphos from £1,095 half board and two nights of New Forest walking from £430, plus a range for the under-50s. Air holidays are ATOL protected under licence 6683. There’s more in our Friendship Travel review.

One Traveller

Here’s the company customers rate most highly. In the Which? survey of solo holiday providers published in November 2025, One Traveller came top with a customer score of 83% and five stars for customer service, while Just You scored 68%.

It’s a family-run firm in Swaffham, Norfolk, founded in 2007 for singles over 50, and every guest gets their own room with no single supplement, many meals, excursions and a tour manager, plus pre-holiday meetups so the first connection happens before you fly. Holidays with flights carry ATOL 9718, and those without are ABTA protected (Y3177).

Cold Fusion

Calling all solo skiers! Cold Fusion bills itself as the original solo ski specialist, with French Alps chalets kept for its own guests. For 2026/27 it runs catered Signature weeks and breakfast-only Flex stays in Chamonix, Les Houches, Val Thorens and Serre Chevalier, including an over-50s week, an off-piste introduction and a single-parent week.

• Sharing a twin with another solo guest (matched by gender and age range) is the cheapest way to go.
• Private accommodation, a double for sole use, costs more.
• Its website showed Flex short breaks in Chamonix from £399 and Signature weeks from £799 in April 2027, checked October 2026.

Big tour operators with solo-only dates

Better still, a few household names now set aside whole tours for people on their own. You get a big operator’s brochure and buying power without being the only single on a coach of couples.

Newmarket Holidays: Exclusively Solos

On Exclusively Solos tours every guest has a private double with its own bathroom at no extra cost, groups average 18 to 20 and never top 24, and many have departures from regional airports such as Manchester, Bristol, Newcastle and Edinburgh. In October 2026 Highlights of the Scottish Highlands was listed from £1,325 for 5 days and Delights of Croatia from £2,129 for 8 days.

Riviera Travel

Riviera’s solo holidays give you a double room or cabin to yourself, with escorted tours capped at 25. Classical Spain (7 days), Malta Uncovered (8 days) and a Blue Danube river cruise are all on the solo list. It’s also turning MS George Eliot into what it calls the world’s first dedicated solo ship, sailing the Danube, Rhine and Moselle from 2027.

Saga

Saga’s holidays for singles are open to anyone 50 and over, and selected escorted tours have dates only for single travellers, led by a solo host with a drinks reception, a welcome dinner and a farewell meal, in groups of under 30 with 24-hour support. Many of its European resort stays come with a single room at no extra cost, though those don’t have a solo host.

Younger groups and adventure trips

Under 50 and fancy something more active? Flash Pack runs premium small group trips for 30 to 49 year olds, with a newer 50 to 65 range, and says around 90% of its guests come alone, with about three quarters sharing a room with a matched roommate.

Intrepid Travel caps groups at 14 and says over half its travellers go solo, but you’ll be paired with someone of the same gender unless you pay for your own room. Contiki is strictly 18 to 35. What happened to Page & Moy?

The old escorted tour brand was retired in 2013, and Travelsphere, Just You’s sister company, has now brought it back as the Page & Moy Collection: six premium small group tours from £2,399, with the first trips due to leave from autumn 2027. It isn’t a solo specialist and doesn’t publish a solo room policy, so ask before you book.

Cheaper ways to go alone with a mainstream operator

The single supplement is the first thing to check, but it isn’t the only one. Run through these before you pay a deposit.
