Champagne and canapés as you walk in, a hot tub steaming on the terrace and a table of strangers who’ll be your ski buddies by Tuesday. That’s the pitch, and after 21 winters it still works. This small, owner-run company runs chalet holidays in the Alps for people who’d rather not wait for a friend to book, and our old page about it was badly out of date.
So here’s a fresh, honest look at cold fusion ski holidays for the 2026/27 season: who goes, where the chalets are, what you pay, and one thing every solo skier should know about financial protection before handing over a deposit.
Still trading? Yes. The company is active at Companies House, the 2026/27 season is on sale and the newest guest comments on its site date from June 2026.
Is Cold Fusion still trading in 2026?
Very much so. Steve and Nicky Jackson started the business in Chamonix in 2005, after meeting there on New Year’s Eve 2003, and they still run it, with their own WhatsApp numbers on the website. Cold Fusion Limited was set up on 9 June 2005, it’s listed as active, and its accounts are filed up to 30 June 2025 with nothing overdue.
The company says it has looked after more than 10,000 guests since then and that over 70% are repeat customers.
What has changed is the size of it. When we first wrote about it, the company ran a handful of chalets in two French resorts. Today it has chalets in four Alpine resorts, plus short breaks, themed holidays, Ikon Pass trips and a new breakfast-only Flex holiday.
Who are Cold Fusion ski holidays for?
Mainly solo skiers and snowboarders. The FAQ puts guests at anywhere from 20 to 70, with no age limit, and says chalets usually run at about half men and half women, though that isn’t guaranteed. Couples and small groups of friends are welcome if they’re happy to be sociable. It isn’t a dating holiday, and children only come on the Single Parent week.
Complete beginners are welcome too. The team books lessons, ski hire and the right ski pass for your first solo ski trip, and roughly half the guests snowboard. If you’d like company your own age, there are Over 50s dates in Les Houches and Serre Chevalier.
Where are the Cold Fusion chalets?
All four resorts are high and snowy, with most slopes above 2,000m, the company says.
Chamonix: Mont Blanc House

The home base, and the busiest chalet in the 2026/27 programme. The Mont Blanc Unlimited pass covers the Chamonix valley, Courmayeur in Italy and the Evasion area, and a typical itinerary takes in Brévent, Le Tour, Flégère and Grands Montets. Short breaks of three or four nights run here too, as do Ikon Pass weeks with Courmayeur access for skiers holding the Ikon Pass.
Les Houches: The Farmhouse
Down the valley from Chamonix, and a good spot for beginners, who can buy a cheaper pass for the lesson area. It hosts the Introduction to Off-Piste course, the Over 50s, Advanced and Single Parent holidays.
Val Thorens and Serre Chevalier
Chalet Summit in Val Thorens runs once, in early December, when the high slopes of the 3 Valleys usually have the best snow. Chalet Zen in Serre Chevalier is an eco chalet near the Aravet lift in Villeneuve. It has six en-suite bedrooms, a pool and a sauna, and sleeps up to 12 guests.
The Alps in winter, without the skis
Just You’s Swiss winter rail tour is for solo travellers only, with a room of your own, a base in Interlaken and lunch on the Glacier Express.
What’s included on a Cold Fusion holiday?
There are two styles. Signature holidays are fully catered:
- Champagne and canapés on arrival
- A full cooked start to the day, afternoon tea with homemade cakes, and a three-course dinner five nights a week
- Complimentary French and Italian wine, plus an honesty bar
- Shared airport transfers from Geneva or Turin
- A daily door-to-door shuttle to the lifts and evening transport into town
- Indoor pool, outdoor jacuzzi and sauna, depending on the chalet
- A host who books your ski pass, hire and lessons and plans a weekly ski itinerary
Cold Fusion Flex, new for 2026/27 in Chamonix, is a bed and breakfast stay, with social skiing and the freedom to eat out. Airport transfers aren’t included on Flex weeks.
On either, you’ll pay extra for travel, your ski pass, hire, tuition and insurance.

Is there a single supplement?
Cold Fusion says there are no single supplements to pay, even if the chalet isn’t full. In practice, you choose between sharing a twin with another guest of the same gender and a similar age, or having a double en-suite to yourself, which costs more. On the 3 January dates in Chamonix, that’s £1,499 to share or £1,999 on your own. Our guide to no single supplement holidays explains how other companies handle it. Just You, for example, guarantees every guest a room of their own.
Is your money protected?
This is the part to read carefully. The company’s own terms say its holidays aren’t package holidays under the 2018 Package Travel Regulations, so the statutory package-travel financial protection doesn’t apply, and because you book your own flights, there’s no ATOL cover either. That’s common for small chalet companies, but it’s different from booking a package with a big tour operator. Travelsphere, for one, says all its holidays are protected by ATOL and ABTA.
The booking terms ask for a £300 deposit to share a twin or £500 for a double, with the balance due 70 days before you go. Cancel 70 days or more ahead and you lose the deposit, between 70 and 42 days it’s 50%, and after that it’s the full cost. Travel insurance that covers winter sports is a condition of booking. Paying by credit card can give you extra protection under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
Prefer a protected package?
Travelsphere’s seven-day Winter in Switzerland tour includes flights from the UK and the GoldenPass train to Montreux; single supplements apply.
What do Cold Fusion guests say?

Cold Fusion says it’s rated number one on Tripadvisor, which we couldn’t confirm. The Tripadvisor comments we read are warm about the hosts, the cooking, the daily shuttle and, above all, the other guests. One solo guest on an Over 50s trip said they’d booked nervously and needn’t have worried.
The criticism is mostly about rooms. A few reviewers felt the cheaper rooms were small or tired for a holiday sold as luxury, and one wasn’t sure which wine was included.
Pros
- Built for solo skiers, with an even mix of men and women
- No single supplement if you share a twin
- Owner-run, with many repeat guests
- Pools, saunas and hot tubs, plus a daily shuttle
Cons
- No package-travel or ATOL protection
- A room of your own costs noticeably more
- Some rooms don’t match the luxury billing
- Flights, ski pass and hire are extra
How to book

Check dates on the company website, then send a booking request through its form or message Steve or Nicky on WhatsApp. They’ll hold a provisional booking for three working days while you sort travel, and you can pre-book your ski pass and hire at the same time.
- Choose shared twin or your own double
- Book flights to Geneva, or Turin for Serre Chevalier
- Buy insurance with winter sports cover
- Pre-book your ski pass and hire
- Pay by credit card if you can
